An Accident

Question: I was alone at home when the phone rang unexpectedly. I was shocked when I heard a cry at the other end of the line.

Minutes seemed like hours. The ambulance still did not arrive at the scene. I was feeling guilty as every minute passed. I was so irresponsible! If I had brought  Max out for a walk myself, things would not have turned out this way. I hugged Max tightly. Blood was gushing out of its wound and he seemed weaker and weaker. Max was whimpering in pain. I recalled what had happened fifteen minutes ago...

I had finally finished my homework marathon! I jumped for joy as I rushed to the kitchen to grab a packet of chips before making a beeline for the sofa to catch my favourite show, Spongebob Squarepants. As Mum and Dad were out at work, I was at home with my domestic helper, Sue and my pet dog, Max. While I was watching Spongebob Squarepants running around in my television, Max approached me.

"Not now Max! Go play ball yourself!" I mumbled, my eyes glued to the television. Max did not give up. He continued rubbing his head on my hands, begging me to bring him out.

I immediately called for Sue. Sue leashed Max and brought him out of a stroll. Finally! The house was in peace! Nobody to stop me from watching television!

After a few minutes, I found myself breaking into peals of laughter. Out of the blue, the house phone rang. Using one hand to reach for the annoying phone, I continued to watch television. However, I was shocked to hear a cry of distress at the other end of the line. It was Sue!

"Help! Max... Max is bleeding!" Sue screamed. I slowly questioned her what had happened. Upon hearing her reply, my jaws dropped. All of a sudden, I felt anxious.

Sue had told me that Max was hit by a flower pot that was thrown down from a high floor. They were just near the void deck of my house!

I put down the phone. Grabbing the house keys, I dashed down. Once the lift doors opened to the ground floor, I rushed out. A crowd was gathered there. Elbowing my way through the crowd. I was appalled to see Max lying there motionless. I signaled for someone to call the ambulance.

The reverberating sirens of the ambulance brought me back to the present. I looked at Max on the stretcher. My hands were clammy. All of a sudden, I felt scared, really scared.

Luckily, after two hours in the operating theatre, the doctor told me that it was very lucky that the flower pot was made of plastic and not glass, if not, it could have caused more serious injuries, and even death! I heaved a sigh of relief.

Hugging Max tightly, I vowed to take more responsibility of Max as I was its owner. I will never let history repeat itself ever, ever again!

Loan Sharks compo again!

Question: You had arranged with a friend in the park at 4'o clock one afternoon. By 5'o clock, your friend had still not arrived.
It was another tranquil afternoon. I had arranged with Tina to play in the park. Tina is my classmate and neighbour. Although her father is a gambler, she is not looked-down upon because of her ever amiable behaviour.
Time passed, and I waited and waited. Looking at many people come and go, I was puzzled. Tina is not a late-comer, she loved being early and was very particular about being late! Glancing at my watch, I was taken-aback at the time. It was 5'o clock! One hour late! Getting rather impatient, I made up my mind to go to her house to find her as I did not bring my mobile phone with me.
"I am sure going to give Tina a piece of my mind when I meet her!" I muttered under my breath. Upon reaching the tenth floor, which was where Tina's house was located, I was astounded to see three burly man knocking on Tina's door with all their might. I scrutinized them from head to toe. All three of them had the same tattoo depicting a red serpent plastered on their right arm. One of them had a parang in his hand. "Could they be loan sharks?" I wondered.
Immediately, I hid behind the trolley placed near Tina's house, getting the closest view I could. "Pay up now! If not," the loan shark bellowed, waving his parang in the air," You will die!" I gasped at hearing this. The loan sharks were aggressive. They threw shoes and smashed ceramic flower pots in to smithereens.
My instincts told me that something was about to happen to poor Tina. Tiptoeing to the lift, I made a dash when the lift door opened.
Just when the lift door opened, I made a beeline for the nearby public phone. Dialling '999', I hoped that the police would come to Tina's rescue soon.
Ten to fifteen minutes later, the wails of sirens could finally be heard. I heaved a sigh of relief. I led them up to Tina's house. However, by that time, the loan sharks were gone! They must have escaped!
Tina was escorted out of the house. Her face was pale with fright and she was sweating. I took her from the police's hand and calmed her down. The police were busy with their investigation. Some of them were investigating the crime scene, some were taking down our statements, while some police were out to search for Tina's father. I comforted Tina that all matters would be resolved by the police. She nodded her head and thanked me for the helping hand I extended to her.
I hope that Tina's father would learn his lesson not to gamble and borrow money from the loan sharks forever, as what he is doing is hurting and harming his family!
